New mental health study for South Asian patients
Are you of South Asian background and recently diagnosed with depression? If you’ve been diagnosed with depression in the past month you may be eligible to take part in the PAPER (Prescribing Antidepressants in Primary care: Ethnic inequalities in tReatment) Study, which is an interview study examining experiences of symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of depression. This research is being carried out by a team of researchers from the University of Surrey.
The purpose of the study is to find out more about how people of a South Asian background experience depression and the care they have received. The research team are particularly interested to know about your recent experience of being diagnosed with depression. The research team will also talk to the GP you had this appointment with about their experience, but they will not share what you have said with this GP.
This research will allow us to help improve how support is offered to people experiencing depression in the future. All participants who take part in the study will receive a £50 retail voucher as a token of the research team’s thanks.
If you are interested in taking part please get in touch with Dr Williams or Jess Newboult (research administrator) at the surgery who will explain the next steps.
